Lehman, Lee and Xu Mongolia have been invited to attend the first assembly of lawyers, 06-08 September 2013


The Law on Legal Status of Lawyers, passed by the Parliament within the framework of the Judicial Legal Reform initiated by the President of Mongolia, has come into force. This law provides that the new Lawyers’ Association shall be a professional self-governed body responsible for approving and enforcing the professional standards of lawyers. The Lawyers’ Association will be responsible for uniting all persons with a license to engage in legal professional activities as well as approving professional standards on behalf of all lawyers, imposing liability, conducting continuous legal education among lawyers, developing legal education, supporting legal assistance to individuals and representing the interests and rights of lawyers. The first assembly of lawyers will be held with the aim to establish the Lawyers’ Association and approve its relevant procedures, management and organizational structure. A total of 490 delegates including 98 judges, 98 prosecutors, 196 advocates and 98 other representatives of lawyers have been nominated and selected for the first assembly. These delegates have been selected through nationwide electronic voting conducted through the database at www.jurists.gov.mn. 2152 lawyers have been nominated and 2772 lawyers participated in the voting, which collected 99,591 total votes. The first assembly of lawyers will be held from the 6th to the 8th of September 2013 at the Government Palace. Alimaa Erdenebat (attorney) and David Beckstead (foreign legal consultant) of Lehman, Lee and Xu Mongolia have been invited by the Ministry of Justice to attend and participate as observers at the lawyers’ first assembly.
